Using Objects Functionally (for their intended purpose)

(for the intended purpose)

  • Encourage your child to notice/find differences in objects (present 3 blocks and a doll; present 3 spoons and a block; present a hammer and 3 balls).
  • Throughout the day present commonly used objects in the vicinity of where they are typically used (e.g., give a telephone, a spoon, a cup, a key, a remote control).
  • Actual objects are often more appealing than toys. Use actual objects where appropriate (e.g., a spoon, a broken phone receiver, etc.).
