Use “OPEN” QUESTIONS

Don’t let the cat get your child’s tongue

If you don’t ask, he won’t tell. For example:

YES/NO
QUESTION
OPEN
QUESTION
“Is
the cat eating?”
“What
is the cat eating?”

Even if your child does not yet verbalize responses, pose open questions and then you go on to answer the questions out loud to model an appropriate response.
