Understanding Positional Concepts (first, middle, last, closet, farthest)

“Position Acquisition”

people-runningGather small objects from your child’s toys such as farm animals, action figures, and place them in a line, all facing in the same direction.

  • Talk about which one is first in line and which one is last and why.
  • Ask if your child can find which one is “In the beginning” of the line and at the “End of the line”?
  • Show your child which one is first, second, third, fourth etc… and then see if your child can identify them when asked.
  • Give your child three different farm animals (e.g., cow, pig, duck). Tell him to place a specific animal in each position (e.g., put the cow first in line).
